I logged on this evening, wondering if you had added anything lately, and there it was, your disturbing, very Meghan, commentary. There is nothing to add. Except, why do I eat meat?
And, I had just been horseback riding in the high desert wonderland of New Mexico, closed to nature and beast. Riding a fine animal (a Tennessee walker) through the cottonwood trees dressed in their gold fall finery. Hunting does seem alien.

given this background of horror at hunting, You can imagine me biting my tongue tonight as I sat through an entire flight beside a man (again the gender thing) avidly reading each page of some militia weapons magazine. Oddly this was while I was reading two articles discussing Obama's developing policy in Afghanistan punctuated with accounts of the multiple sucicide bomber attacks this month in Pakistan, as well as the stockpiling of weapons by the Taliban using poppy seed money. The horror of gunning down young (or old) does is enough, without envisioning young brainwashed boys outfitted as soldiers for Allah driven to "righteous " killing in His name. I just don't know sometimes.
Sadly, in my own small minded way, the only sense of justice that I could see was that this same (gun magazine) gentleman had, absolutely, hands down, the ugliest nose I have ever witnessed. No word of a lie, no hyberbole. I had seen him in the airport earlier, and was actually revulsed by a long pointed crooked globular appendage whose Cerano de Bergnac (sp) crossed with a wicked witch shape was surpassed by the texture of craters and warty growths colored by varying exposure to sun or heat or smoke or fire or a combination of all of the above, finished off with the vascular proliferation and dilitation peculiar to frequent imbibers in alcohol (think WC Fields as a baseline). Finally add the patchy coloration and surface uniqe to skin that has every stigmata of the oily (sheen and grease), the dry (patchy flaking of red and white dander), and the porous (no amount of product could shrink these pores) , peppered with sebum clogs and black plugs. Yes, he sat in the seat beside me and I actually thought I might be unable to look at him up close. And then he opens his urban warrior magazine..

Sort of good reference. (Ages late, but Launch Pad info is kicking in here.) You have to remember the photos from the moon landing are photos, with photogtraphic effects. For example, film doesn't pick up the starlight, and I remember uncertainty about how visible stars would be from the surface of a planetoid like that in daytime. Apparently what astronauts remember is inconsistent between accounts.

What the surface looks like is dependent on the nature of the material of the surface: if it's dust, it has a different kind of reflectivity than if it were, say, bare solid rock. (There's a neat halo effect surrounding shadows. Can't recall what it's called.)

As far as I know the sun would be an alright light source but shadows would be very dark and deep, even just at one's feet. If I recall right, and of course unless there's something to reflect the light back into the shadow, like a rocky outcropping...

If you have more questions (or any at all remaining at this point) let me know, I can try find out or ask folks who would know...

Food does not always tell me the truth. In aroma, yes. But The ice cream god has blessed me, somewo icecream does not seem to add caloric content to my daily intake. You know it has always been bizarre. Only lately have I decided that it is a unique phenomenon. I finished off two half gallons- Breyers mint chip of course, and heath bar crunch, (each missing a single serving) between Sunday night and thursday night...SO delicious. It was only when, once agian, CUrtis looked for his Heath bar toffee crunch that I became mortified- "you finished it ALL? ALL of it? MINE too???" says CUrtis. "You should not have gotten Heath bar crunch," I defend myself, casting about for any port in a storm. "you know I love Heath Bars!" After all, what was he thinking. Sigh I guess I never met an icecream flavor that I didn't like. But I should be enormous. Enormous. This phenomenon does not extend to other food substances. I could get fat, I think, eating fudge, or mashed potatos, or brownies, or macadam,ia nuts. But not ice cream. Thank the lord!

I'll take full responsibility for your addiction to scented drawer liner paper. Such a luxury! It makes folding and stacking clothes neatly so rewarding...lavender, lilac, jasmine, freesia, rose...a throwback, I supose, to the 50's, when homemakers took on the role with great pride and skill, making the home so lovely, so comfy, so inviting. Sad that many of the delicious details of those days seem lost , met with disdain. Stiching sachets, darning socks, polishing shoes, folding napkins and handkerchiefs with flair, airing pillows, waxing floors, beating carpets (might have kept violence in the home down!). Slippers, and a cocktail extended to the breadwinner as he arrives home, wife's hair permed and styled, nails done, seamed stockings, cinch waisted dress with crinoline petticoats, and pumps. Children freshly scrubbed, and polite.
But drawer liners...ah such bliss! That, and freshly ironed cotton sheets, sprayed with lavender or rosewater! Another fairy tale. I wish I had a 50's wife (and kept my husband, too!) I'm sooooo glad I am a post women's lib child! Boy, did men have it good. They must be pissed when they see those old 50's sitcoms!
Don't despair, drawer liner paper can often be found at Christmas. Shall I look our for some, or are you happy with the wrapping paper?
Love you, miss you,

my secret is out...I asked your fairy godmother to give you a brain that could solve the problems of the world, and she raised her (perfect ) brow, "are you certain?" she asked. "The last mother that asked for that was Einsteins's, and the brain development does unpredictable things to the hair"...I responded "as long as you can assure me that she won't have mle pattern baldness like Einstein , I'll take the risk".
